14 clans back Solwara 1 were the headlines that screamed out on Tuesday's issue of the National Newspaper.
The end of this tumultuous year 2012 is almost upon us, a perfect time for one to reflect and ponder where they’ve gone right, where they’ve gone wrong and where they could’ve done something better.
And it would seem that the government of Papua New Guinea was doing exactly that! One got a sense of turning a new leaf, moving in the right direction and all that in the last month or so. The question of motives aside, it’s great that the government seems to be taking its people seriously and listening to concerns raised by ordinary Papua New Guineans about domestic and international issues. Revisiting, reassessing and reprioritizing of agreements, policies and in some rare cases of personal opinion.
It seemed that we finally have a government that is willing and able to do the right thing for its people and although at times certain external dominant powers have tried to exert their lustful pressure – it seemed the O’Dion crew is able to stand its ground – so far!
BUT ALAS there’s a new sickening twist - it seems that these alien powers have found a way to infiltrate and brain-wash people of Papua Nuigini! Scary isn’t it? What does one do when it’s no longer just the members of parliament that are being lured by fake and fast fading happiness!
So one must question why (apparently) 14 community leaders are demanding that a project that has been proven time and again, as not only economically useless BUT environmentally it is a risk that is not worth paying the price for to be initiated!
Amazing particularly when experts in the field of marine biodiversity, marine biology and conservation, economics, chemical processing and engineering have expressed their concerns about THAT particular project not mention written negative reports, reviews and case studies on that project. And yet these 'community leaders' say there is no valid proof to halt THIS project?
Wow! Sad how they can overlook the fact that the sea is one mass of water with currents put simply - the project won't just affect these 14 clans. Put simply everyone along that coastline has as much right to a clean and healthy sea as those 14 communities.
